The Sovereign Within
Amandeep Rakhra · Aotearoa, New Zealand
This work reflects a life shaped through discipline, devotion, and surrender, not to man, but to the timeless force of the Akaal.
The figure stands with quiet authority, not seeking to prove strength, but carrying it with stillness. Every element, from form to presence, speaks of a path that is lived, not performed.
It is not the image of a warrior in battle, but of one who has already given themselves to something greater. A reminder that true power does not come from force, but from alignment with what one serves.
Context
About Nihang
The Nihang are a traditional warrior order within Sikhism, known for their deep discipline, distinct identity, and absolute commitment to the Guru. Historically, they have served as protectors of faith, carrying forward a legacy rooted in sovereignty.
More than warriors in battle, the Nihang represent a way of living, one that aligns the self with the will of the eternal force (Akaal), beyond fear, beyond ego.
The Shastra (weapons) they carry are not symbols of aggression, but of responsibility, representing a duty to uphold righteousness, and to stand in service of truth. They are as much spiritual as they are physical, reminding the bearer of balance, and the weight of what they defend.
